How to Use P-R-N-D Correctly in Automatic Cars
Automatic cars are easy to drive, but many people use the gears wrong and damage the transmission.
P (Park) locks the transmission. Only use it when the car is completely stopped. Shifting into P while moving can break the gears. Do not use P at long traffic lights in case of rear-end collision.
R (Reverse) also requires a full stop. Shifting while moving causes serious damage.
N (Neutral) is for short stops. You may use it at traffic lights over 30 seconds. Do not coast in neutral; it is unsafe and not fuel-efficient.
D (Drive) is for normal driving. Many cars have L (low gear) for steep hills and S (sport) for faster overtaking.
Recommended parking steps: brake → N → handbrake → release foot brake → P → turn off engine. This reduces stress on the transmission.
Using gears properly helps the gearbox last for many years.
