The car battery, or accumulator, is often overlooked. A dead battery leaves you stranded.
A normal lead-acid battery usually lasts 3–5 years. AGM batteries for start-stop systems last longer but cost more. Signs of a weak battery include slow cranking, dim lights and electrical faults.
Bad habits shorten battery life: using electronics while the engine is off, frequent short trips, and adding high-power devices.
To extend life: avoid using power when the engine is off; drive at least 20 minutes a week to fully charge the battery; use proper wiring for accessories.
If you do not drive for a long time, start the engine every 10 days or use a battery charger.
Good habits make the battery last years longer.
